Together we can get through this

3rd Sunday of Advent

As I write, the prospect of the election looms large. I hope Gaudete Sunday will find cheer for us one way or other.  Preaching at Hope University last weekend for the graduation of the first cohort of the Loyola University of Chicago’s Certificate/Diploma in Lay Pastoral Ministry students, Archbishop Malcolm emphasised the similarities between the turbulent times of the biblical era with those we are living through today. What personally gives me comfort is that the God who never fails us is always by our side – rejoicing with us as we delight in the joy of the season and holding us in his tender embrace in times of despondency. I’ve appropriated this sentiment for our times: “Together, we can get through this.” God Bless, Helen.
